Strange, strange world. Just a few days after the Imus mayhem, we'll see the bright side of the distance our society has traveled to improve race relations. This Sunday, numerous baseball players will be wearing #42 (a number that has officially been retired in honor of Jackie Robinson), in tribute to a man who broke the colour barrier in baseball, and helped our society grow up a little.
If Imus's verbal act was a manifestation of our negative impulses, this chorus of #42's on Sunday will be a silent & eloquent proclamation of our aspirations as a culture.
